Bruce Springsteen, Museum Director

If The Boss ran a museum, what would it look like?

Bruce Loves Oregon History, He's Got Some Of His Own

We know his themes; he’s reminded us for thirty-five years.

Bruce likes cars. He likes to race them:

I got a sixty-nine Chevy with a 396
Fuelie heads and a Hurst on the floor
She’s waiting tonight down in the parking lot
Outside the Seven-Eleven store

Bruce likes Rock and Roll:

Well I got this guitar
And I learned how to make it talk

Sometimes he combines them:

Driving in to Darlington City
Got a union connection with an uncle of Wayne’s
We drove eight-hundred miles without seeing a cop
We got rock and roll music blasting off the t-top singing

Is it safe to say any museum Bruce ran would have to include cars and rock?

If you answer yes, then who made this real Jersey guy the director of the Oregon Historical Society?

Bruce would approve of an exhibit named Pedal To The Metal.

What would he do after that? Rock and Roll?

OHS opens with Oregon Rocks on August 25th.

The real boss at the Oregon History Museum is Kerry Tymchuk, not Bruce Springsteen, but they share a common vision.

They want people to step outside their own experience. They want you to better understand who you are.

Mr. Tymchuk wants you to participate in Oregon history. He opens the book to you so you’ll know more about where you are.

Bruce writes the book with a solid back-beat.

I come from down in the valley
Where mister, when you’re young
They bring you up to do like your daddy done
Me and Mary we met in high school
When she was just seventeen
We’d drive out of this valley down to where the fields where green

We’d go down to the river
And into the river we’d dive
Oh down to the river we’d ride

Then I got Mary pregnant
And, man, that was all she wrote
And for my 19th birthday I got a union card and a wedding coat
We went down to the courthouse
And the judge put it all to rest
No wedding day smiles, no walk down the aisle
No flowers, no wedding dress

That night we went down to the river
And into the river we’d dive
Oh down to the river we did ride

I got a job working construction for the Johnstown Company
But lately there ain’t been much work on account of the economy
Now all them thing that seemed so important
Well, mister they vanished right into the air
Now I just act like I don’t remember
Mary acts like she don’t care

Make your story better by a trip to OHS, then write it down and play it loud.
